Three Hour In-Person Training

Client: Waterpik

Tools used in Development: Canva, Magic Media (Generative AI)

Time: 20 Hours

Executive Summary: McKinsey research suggests that personalization, often driven by product knowledge, can boost revenue by up to 15%. Despite this, new employees are often expected to learn about their company’s product “on the fly” or on their own time. Such an oversight can cause unspoken misunderstandings and uncertainty leading to a less than optimal workflow, wasting countless hours and company dollars. This is why early and comprehensive product training training matters.

I created this three hour training instructor-led training for incoming members of the Waterpik oral care marketing and sales department to increase employee understanding of the company’s oral care product line and the oral care product coding system. It is expected to be delivered in-person to a minimum of 10 people and is meant to reduce the amount of time it takes an employee to retrieve specific product information.

I chose a delivery and activities that draw on time-tested, research-backed instructional methods in order to support learner retention and transference. The learning is designed to encourage active participation and collaboration, fostering a sense of community, setting a tone that meets the needs and eases the concerns of new employees.

Facilitator Guide

The Facilitator Guide is comprehensive and supportive, providing the trainer with a clear blueprint for an organized, successful and meaningful training. I included Introductory material such as tips for how to best use the guide, a check list of preparatory action items, strategies to employ during the training, and suggestions for helping participants draw connections between the content and their new job responsibilities.

I’ve also provided a slide by slide breakdown with space for the facilitator to make notes and adapt the training accordingly. Although the content is not formatted as a script, the talking points are specific enough that, if needed, the facilitator can choose to adopt the wording in order to clearly articulate ideas. In addition to talking points, suggestions for how to smoothly facilitate each activity are included.

The Slide Deck that I designed for this training is meant to be used in conjunction with the Facilitator Guide. Drawing on Waterpik’s brand colors, the feel of the design is professional and semi-formal appealing to a corporate audience, but balanced with visuals that are friendly and relatable, offering a human element to the learning experience.

Participant Guide

The Participant Guide that I created is meant to be used as a workbook, which can be either printed or delivered and completed digitally, depending on the needs of the learner or the preference of the facilitator. Created in Canva, it features a clean and on-brand aesthetic, as well as clear headings that help the learner stay on track and aligned with the trajectory of the course.

The work book also serves as a space for learners to take notes, work through knowledge checks, complete formative assessments, and reflect, keeping them active and engaged throughout the training. Finally, I provided resources for the continued application of content which the learner is encouraged to use promoting the smooth integration of knowledge into their future role.
